This remains one of the Norwegian Olympic hopes: – More medal opportunities


Norway has three medals when the last week of the Tokyo Olympics begins. Thus, five medals are missing to reach the Olympic goal. Here is an overview of the remaining Norwegian Olympic hopes.

So far at the Olympics, Norway has won three medals, one in each denomination. Kristian Blummenfelt took the gold in triathlon, Kjetil Borch silver in singlesculler, and Hermann Tomasgaard bronze in laser candle.

With that, Norway adds five of the eight medals that Olympiatoppen had as a goal before the championship.

– There are still more medal opportunities and there may be more surprises, handball player Karoline Dyhre Breivang tells VG.

– I started counting for breakfast. We have had rods rowing and shooting so far, but we have good opportunities in handball, track and field and beach volleyball, says Breivang on Saturday. Then he also mentioned Tomasgaard in sailing, who lived up to the hype and won a medal on Sunday.

Dyhre Breivang himself has two Olympic gold medals in handball from Beijing 2008 and London 2012, as well as one World Cup and five from Europe. It is the one with the most international appearances for the Norwegian women’s national handball team.

VG fact expert Geir Juva believes Norway has four medal candidates left: Karsten Warholm, Jakob Ingebrigtsen, the handball girls and the sand volleyball boys. He’s struggling to see the handball boys beat Denmark in the quarterfinals.

Athletics

Karsten warholm: Warholm is ready for the 400m hurdles Olympic final. There is the gold favorite, in what is expected to be a duel with the American Rai Benjamin. In the semi-finals on Sunday, Warholm was the fastest, but both took it relatively easy on the last few meters.

The final will be played on Tuesday at 05:20 Norway time.

Jakob and Filip Ingebrigtsen: Brothers Jakob and Filip Ingebrigtsen run 1,500 meters at the Olympics. Kenyan Timothy Cheruiyot is the favorite in the distance, with Jakob marked on the heel. Filip is a contender for a medal.

The Ingebrigtsen brothers hold a knockout test at 02:05 on Tuesday. The semifinals are played on Thursday, while the final is on Saturday at 1:40 pm.

The handball girls: The Norwegian women’s national handball team has so far been convincing at the Olympics and is among the favorites to win gold.

– They are absolutely capable of reaching the top, says Dyhre Breivang.

The reigning European champions are already group winners ahead of the final group stage match against Japan on Monday. In the quarterfinals on Wednesday, Hungary waits. The semi-finals are played on Friday, while the final and the bronze final are played on Sunday.

Handball boys: The Norwegian men’s handball team moved from the group stage to fourth place in their group. There were two defeats in five group stage matches, but in the last match they impressed with a victory against the group-winning France.
