Sheriff surprised Real Madrid – won 2-1 at the Bernabéu

Sheriff Tiraspol was one of the greatest sensations in the history of the Champions League. The guests from Moldova surprised Real Madrid and won 2-1 at the Estádio Bernabeu.

Luka Jovic, Karim Benzema and Luka Modric had to claim that Real Madrid lost at home to Sheriff Tiraspol in the Champions League on Tuesday.

Sébastien Thill, a player for the Luxembourg national team, won the match in the ordinary last minute of the match with a half volley in the middle from a distance. By then, Real Madrid had desperately chased a winning goal after equalizing the visitors’ lead on a penalty kick.

After 25 minutes, Jasurbek Yakshiboev came in from the right, feinted and swiftly passed the off-balance defender to put it 1 – 0 on the scoreboard, giving Real Madrid the lead. Thus, the guests headed towards the course of the game and with good reason.

The sheriff continued to do so when the hour had passed at the Bernabéu, thanks to heroic defensive efforts, but then Real Madrid scored a penalty. Following a VAR review, it was concluded that Edmund Addo used illegal means against Vinicius Junior in the penalty area.

Karim Benzema scored the penalty and applauded his 72nd goal in the Champions League.

Lightning struck

Real coach Carlo Ancelotti was at the time in the process of making four simultaneous substitutions, and instead they came just after the tie. Luka Modric, Luka Jovic, Rodrygo and Toni Kroos entered, and with them the home team was going to chase the winning goal.

Instead, lightning was about to strike the same spot again when Bruno (who came in for a Yakshiboev injured from a strain) nodded with a new Cristiano post in goal, but the VAR declared he was offside.

Giorgos Athanasiadis in the Sheriff’s goal continued with his great game and ensured that Real Madrid despite 31-4 at the end (of which 12-3 between the posts) did not get more goals than the penalty.

Just before the end, Thill with his winning goal ensured that the Sheriff is alone at the top of the table after a mega sensation.

Inter wasted

Edin Dzeko and Inter came closest to scoring in the Champions League match against Shakhtar Donetsk, but did not get the ball into goal.

A few hours earlier, Inter had great opportunities to score a long-awaited away win in the same group, but failed to take advantage of them in the 0-0 game against Shakhtar Donetsk in Kiev.

Dangerous home team forward Lassina Traoré had to leave due to injury in the 10th minute and without him the home team would not be able to create many chances. Inter, for their part, presented opportunities that should have paid off. Nicolò Barella unleashed a deflection from the right that the visiting goalkeeper did well to deflect the ball.

After 34 minutes, Edin Dzeko sent a free kick high over the area. In the final phase, substitute Joaquín Correa and midfielder Stefan de Vrij each had their great opportunity.

– I am happy with my players. We created a lot, but the problem was that we didn’t take advantage of the chances, Inter coach Simone Inzaghi told Sky.

Inter dominated at home against Real Madrid in the first game of the Champions League, but lost on a setback just before the end. On Tuesday, there were at least points, but in the Inter field you probably think that the team should have had a full pot.
