VALLE (Aftenposten): VIF received help from a generous Rosenborg when they got a ticket to Ullevaal.
Valerenga 4-0 Rosenborg
Errors had rife in much of the settlement. But it was no less delightful for the Vålerenga players when the final signal sounded in Saturday’s cup semi-final against Rosenborg.
They had crushed their rivals.
Last year’s league champions have had a disappointing season. But after the game against Rosenborg, smiles were back in place.
“We will win the final!” the VIF fans sang.
On October 31 they travel to Ullevaal to collect the Copa del Rey.
A lot in the pot
Last year, the two teams fought for the league title until the last round. Vålerenga was finally able to cheer, after clinching the gold on goal difference.
This season has been more difficult for the Oslo team. At times, the maximum level has been high, but stability has been lacking. The reigning champions of the league are hooked for the gold match, four rounds before the end. Rosenborg are the closest team to league leaders Sandviken, but there are many indications that the title will be too difficult for them as well.
Thus, the semifinal on Saturday was very important for both teams. The chance to win a trophy was in the pot. RBK had won the top two league games between them this season.
But VIF wanted revenge. Because they won the cup last year. They wanted to defend that triumph.
Early scoring after loss of concert
There was a great distance between the spectators in Intility Arena. In the opening minutes, there was little pressure both there and on the artificial turf.
But at least one had turned on the correct ignition level in the first few minutes. RBK goalkeeper Kristine Nøstmo probably took a long time with the ball on her legs. Agnete Nilsen sank under pressure. She was rewarded for her efforts when Nøstmo’s punt hit her on the foot. The ball rolled towards the goal, to the joy of VIF and despair of Nøstmo.
Then there was also some life in the home of the fans who attended. But the teams fought to keep things flowing. Turnovers abounded.
But VIF had better margins. After 20 minutes, Nilsen duped an RBK defender on the brink. It focused on Janni Thomsen, which ended. The shot was blocked, but the ball ended up in the hands of Thea Bjelde. The angle was tricky, but the summer signing turned at five and sent his shot into the corner.
Neither team had been good, but VIF could be significantly happier until halftime.
In the break interview with NRK, RBK captain Mali Lilleås Næss pointed out how tame the round had been.
But it was his team that had to score after the break. And it was not so. Vålerenga on the other hand …
There were just over ten minutes to go when things went wrong in RBK’s defense. Emilie Bragstad appeared just in time near the post and led him past the goalkeeper. Rikke Marie Madsen snatched the ball and hit it hard into the net. VIF had done the job.
Marie Dølvik Markussen made it 4-0 shortly after.
Thus, Lillestrøm or Sandviken await in Ullevaal on October 31. The two meet on Sunday.
