GOTHENBURG (Aftenposten): The last time Ada Hegerberg played a soccer game, hardly anyone knew what the crown was. After 625 days of injury nightmares, he finally returned.
BK Häcken – Olympique Lyonnaise 0–3.
The sky grew darker in Gothenburg. Ada Hegerberg began to warm up on the sidelines.
When Hegerberg entered the field before the start of the game, he greeted the family in the stands. On the other side of the stadium there were around 15 enthusiastic Lyon fans cheering for the Lyon players coming out of the tunnel. Two of them held up two large silver balloons with the number 14. Hegerberg’s suit number. Fortunately, they did not arrive in vain.
After just over 70 minutes on the bench, Lyon made a triple player change. The winner of Norway’s Ballon d’Or entered.
Damage to damage
Ada Hegerberg has not played a soccer game since January 2020. Then her cruciate ligament was torn. Last fall she had to undergo surgery for a fatigue fracture on her shin and this spring she had a relapse.
The attacker, who has a record for the most Champions League goals on the women’s side, has been out for 20 months due to injury. The injury he sustained in January last year caused him several injuries during training. After three operations, he returned to training in Lyon a couple of weeks ago.
At the press conference prior to the Häcken game, Lyon coach Sonia Bompastor said Hegerberg is ready.
– When I take her out of the 21-player squad it is because she is 100 percent prepared, both mentally and physically, said the coach.
Difficult combination for yellow and black
The local team Häcken had a hard time from the start. Already in the tenth minute, Melvine Malard put Lyon ahead.
Swedish team Drt managed to keep up the pressure during the first half, but the chances were few. In the second half, the class difference between the two teams could be better seen. Lyon left with one more goal just after the break. Then came the third shortly after.
– I think we played well the first 45 minutes. But we played against a very good team, so we knew it would be difficult. It’s a shame they scored so early because it probably gave them more confidence, says Häcken’s coach Mats Gren after the match.
In international matches, there will be a greater pace, intensity and tougher close matches than Häcken is used to. Lyon are a much stronger and “faster” team than the Gothenburg rivals. In France, they are at the top of the table, three points ahead of last year’s league champion PSG.
And now they have Sunndal’s attacking star back in action.
In 2016, she was named player of the year by Uefa. In 2018, the Ballon d’Or was awarded to a woman for the first time. The award was won by Hegerberg.
During his stay in Lyon, he has scored 144 goals in 117 games. There were no goals on his comeback, but now he’s finally back.
