The Vennesla activity day has been running for almost 20 years, and cannot be stopped by the crown.

For almost 20 years, the Vindbjart sports team has organized activity days for primary school students in Vennesla. During the same time, they have had Sparebanken Sør as a loyal supporter.

– Sparebanken Sør always appears for us. We know we can count on them, and that means a lot, says Harry Alf Andersen.

He is a board member of the Vindbjart sports team, which is the main body for athletics, skiing, orienteering and handball in Vennesla. For almost 20 years, Vindbjart has organized an activity day for around 500 elementary school students in grades five, six and seven from Vennesla’s seven elementary schools. Sparebanken Sør has contributed financially to the event for years.

– The day of activities is a purely spending project that is executed on a voluntary basis. The financial support we receive is used, among other things, for meals and prizes for all participants, says Andersen.
The award is a specially made aluminum mountain peak statuette in three different sizes.

– A lot of the kids think it’s great to get such a special award, says Andersen.

Common sand

The objective of the day of activities is to create a common space for the children in Vennesla.

– As a sports team, it’s easy to focus on results, but to get someone to the top, you need a foundation. This foundation is children and youth. The day of activities will be a meeting point where everyone can try track and field exercises and orientation exercises, regardless of what they usually do in their free time, says Andersen.

This year and last year, the activity day has looked a little different due to the corona pandemic. Instead of bringing all the schools together in one day, three schools signed up for activities in Moseidmoen in the last week before summer break. The remaining schools had their own events.

– The most important thing is to organize a day of activities, even if it is small. We get a lot of feedback from kids that this means a lot, says Andersen.
The day of activities also brings together between 50 and 70 senior volunteer officials, who are important supporters of children.

– It is very nice to see the ties that are linked between generations, says Andersen.

– A pleasure

– It is very nice to hear what support means to people. Vennesla activity day is important to many and it is a pleasure to support the event, says Steinar Larsen, bank manager of Sparebanken Sør in Vennesla.

Sparebanken Sør is the largest bank in the region and has given gifts to teams, associations, sports and culture for almost 200 years. They hope to continue to do so for at least two hundred new years.
– We want to contribute to good initiatives in the local community. Many teams and associations run on a voluntary basis and rely on funds to hold events that benefit the population, Larsen says.

Anyone can apply for funding from Sparebanken Sør, and many do.

– We try to be accommodating where we can. Children and young people are especially close to our hearts, but we support all kinds of teams, associations and events, says the bank manager.
