Zinédine Zidane has also reportedly been strongly wanted at Old Trafford, much due to his fantastic period at Real Madrid from 2016-2018 in a two-man team with current Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo. He did not succeed in his return to the capital club in his second period as manager from 2019-21 despite one La Liga title, and has been without a job since May.

Now the return can come – not at Manchester United, but as Pochettino’s replacement at PSG.

That Manchester United is considering spending millions on getting a coach under contract, says football analyst, and former top coach Øyvind Eide, is problematic and challenging for the club.

– In that case, Pochettino wants to put his stamp on the team. Now this is a squad that is built on a 4–2–3–1 system. Should Pochettino, for example, want to play a 5–3-2 formation, the squad is not balanced for that, and he must bring in new players. This will apply to other managers and. Therefore, there must be money in the bank to make it happen, Eide says to VG, and suggests a contractless candidate instead:
