Covid-19: the entire population of the Emirates received a dose of vaccine, a first in the world

A score of 100%. The entire population of the United Arab Emirates eligible for vaccination against Covid-19 has received “at least one dose of vaccine”, a first in the world, according to the Ministry of Health of this Gulf country.

Nearly 22 million doses have been administered in total, with “100% of the population having received an injection” and “90.18%” being “completely vaccinated”, the ministry added on Friday 26 November.

In this country of some 10 million inhabitants, the vast majority of whom are immigrant workers, the population can be vaccinated from the age of three.

This announcement comes as a new variant of Covid-19, called Omicron and deemed “worrying” by the World Health Organization (WHO), was originally detected in South Africa.

In response, many countries around the world including the Emirates have closed their borders to travelers from southern African countries. According to official statistics, the country has recorded more than 741,000 cases of Covid-19 contamination, including 2,145 deaths.
