Météo France placed, this Thursday morning, two departments in orange vigilance for rain-flooding.
These are the Pyrénées-Atlantiques and the Hautes-Pyrénées. The two departments should experience an “episode of heavy precipitation, remarkable for its duration and the expected quantities”, specifies the meteorological organization.
“Showers are still expected in the western Pyrenees this morning before the arrival of more continuous precipitation. This continuous rainfall will strengthen from mid-afternoon this Thursday, becoming moderate to heavy on the Spanish border of the Pyrenees-Atlantiques. These heavy rains will be generalized in the evening to the two departments placed in orange vigilance, with an hourly intensity of the order of 5 to 10mm in places, in particular in the Basque Country and the relief of the Pyrenees ”, writes Météo France on its site.
The rains will continue overnight from Thursday to Friday as well as in the morning of Friday.
“By Friday at noon, we expect daily accumulations of the order of: 50 to 70 mm in the Basque Country, 60 to 80 mm in the Pyrenees, 80 to 100 mm (locally 120 mm) on the relief of the Pyrenees, 30 to 50 mm elsewhere on the two departments placed on orange alert. »
