Stormy atmosphere in the National Assembly. Faced with the outbreak of the Omicron variant of Covid-19, the deputies began this Monday examining the bill transforming the health pass into a vaccine pass, fought by part of the opposition.
The Minister of Health Olivier Véran was present in the hemicycle to defend a text of “cold blood and responsibility”. “We have a vaccine” and by Tuesday, the French will be “53 million to have received a first injection”, underlined the minister, for whom this shows that “French society is not divided”. “There are those distant” from the vaccine and “the indifferent”: “we will manage to convince them”, according to him. “And then there are those for whom no rational register can be mobilized”, “their fight is tiny”.
“Behind a discourse on so-called freedom too often hide a selfishness or a withdrawal into oneself”, also criticized Olivier Véran, while RN on the one hand, LFI and the Communists on the other are opposed to the vaccination pass. “The refusal of vaccination carries many of the sad passions of which our society is capable,” he added.
For Jean-Luc Mélenchon, the vaccine pass is “a racket with holes”
The LFI deputy and presidential candidate Jean-Luc Mélenchon responded by presenting a motion of prior rejection against a bill sowing “chaos, mayhem”, which however was not adopted. The vaccine pass is “a racket with holes” and it is “100% ineffective” in view of the current spread of the virus, according to the elected representative of Bouches-du-Rhône, for whom “freedom is the best protection”. The checks that can be made by the managers of places and activities subject to the pass pave the way for a “totalitarian society”, also denounced Jean-Luc Mélenchon.
Olivier Véran quickly responded to the Insubordinate, accusing him of taking an example from “two very bad Presidents of the Republic”, Jair Bolsonaro in Brazil and former President Donald Trump in the United States. He also pointed out that the LFI candidate himself was vaccinated.
