These are the highlights of 2022

Corona may affect the sports year 2022 as well – as the pandemic has turned so much upside down in the last two years.

WAS SUPERB: Is it possible for Therese Johaug to recreate these scenes from the previous World Cup in this year’s Olympics? Here she has just won five miles superbly.

The Summer Olympics finally became a reality in 2021, and in 2022 the World Cup and the Winter Olympics may be the big thing for Norwegian sports lovers.

A number of venues are controversial, but here are some of the highlights of the 2022 sports year:

GOLD BOYS: Roberto Mancini (left) and Giorgio Chiellini show the trophy after winning the European Football Championship 2021.

Soccer World Cup in winter

The World Cup in Qatar is scheduled for November 21-18. December 2022

The World Cup has been moved to Advent due to the extreme heat in the Persian Gulf in June-July.

Qatar has been reviewed for human rights, but no country will boycott the championship.

European champions Italy are not yet qualified, but have the chance in the playoffs this spring. Cristiano Ronaldo and Portugal have the same, and Sweden will play for our neighbors.

FOUR GOLDS: Therese Johaug won everything she competed in during the World Cup last winter.

To the Olympics to dig for gold

Therese Johaug, Johannes Høsflot Klæbo, Aleksander Aamodt Kilde, Halvor Egner Granerud and a bunch of other Norwegian gold candidates are going to China, where it is the Olympics between 4 and 20 February.

The Olympics have been debated both because of the corona and human rights, but all indications are that there will be winter games this year.

NEW OPPORTUNITIES: Viktor Hovland (right) has so far benefited from being in the top 10 in the most prestigious tournament. Tv Tiger Woods.

Viktor Hovland and the big four

If he stays injury-free, the 24-year-old will be in action almost all of 2022. But the most important thing is the four major tournaments, where he has so far not been in the top 10 ever.

It starts with the Masters at the Augusta track April 7 to 10, continues with the PGA Championship at Southern Hills Country Club, Oklahoma May 19-22, then the US Open at Brookline, Massachusetts June 16-19. June and finally The Open – or British Open as many of us call it – at St Andrew’s 14-17. July.

TRIUMPH: Casper Ruud cheers after beating Andrei Rublyov in the ATP final in November.

Casper Ruud and the Big Four

Casper Ruud had a tremendously impressive 2021 and is now number eight in the world. But he still has the benefit of getting further than the 4th round in the four most prestigious tournaments, the so-called Grand Slam.

The Australian Open is played in Melbourne 17–30. January, the French Open on the gravel in Paris from May 16 to June 5, the Wimbledon tournament on grass from June 27 to July 10 and finally the US Open in New York August 29 to September 11.

Ski flying in Vikersund

One of the biggest championships on Norwegian soil in 2022 is the World Ski Flying Championships in Vikersund. For some of the jumpers, it is even bigger than the Olympics. Norway won the team competition in 2016, 2018 and 2020, and in 2018 Daniel-André Tande won individually.

Time: 10. – 13. March.

CELEBRATION: Max Verstappen (left) and team manager Christian Horner (right) mark the World Cup gold with the rest of the team.

formula 1

It was an insane duel between Max Verstappen and Lewis Hamilton for the World Cup title in 2021. Shall we experience the same in 2022? Or can the Ferrari duo or other drivers take the step up? Remember that there are completely new rules for the cars in Formula 1 in 2022 – therefore a lot can change in the balance of power between the teams.

The first race will take place in Bahrain on March 20 and the last in Abu Dhabi on November 20.

OLYMPIC CHAMPION: Jakob Ingebrigtsen was so happy after the gold in the 1500 meters was secured in Tokyo.

Many championships

The championships in athletics have accumulated for Karsten Warholm, Jakob Ingebrigtsen and the others. After the Olympics in 2021, there are both the European Championships and the World Cup in 2022.

They run the World Cup in Eugene, USA from July 15 to 24.

The European Championships take place in Munich from 15 to 21 August.

The World Indoor Championships will take place in Belgrade from 18 to 20 March.

Caroline Graham Hansen cheers after scoring in the qualifier against Belgium in November 2021.

Finally the European Championships

When the men’s European Championships were postponed from 2020 to 2021, it was also decided that the women’s football European Championships should be moved to 2022. Now it is finally ready for the championship in England from 6 to 31 July.

Caroline Graham Hansen and Norway are in the pool with the hosts England, Austria and Northern Ireland.

And as usual, the big question is: Will Ada Hegerberg return to the national team?

GOLD CELEBRATION: The handball women had to settle for bronze in the Olympics – but in return won the World Cup in December 2021.

New handball championships

The women’s handball championship has been moved forward in relation to what we are used to: the European Championships take place from 4 to 20. November in the Balkans: Slovenia, Northern Macedonia and Montenegro

The European Championships for men will be held in Slovakia and Hungary from 13 to 30 January.

Champions League final

This spring’s cup game in the Champions League got off to a heavy start when the draw had to be redone recently.

Regardless: The final will take place on May 28 at what is now called Gazprom Arena in St. Petersburg.

Will it be Paris Saint-Germain? Or Real Madrid? Bayern Munich? Or will there be another English winner – Chelsea, Manchester City or Liverpool?

FROM TOKYO TO BEIJING: Birgit Skarstein took gold in the summer Paralympics. Now she is betting on the Winter Paralympics.

Para-championship
