(Chelsea-Tottenham 2-0) Antonio Conte’s reunion with Stamford Bridge was a bit of a nightmare.

The Tottenham manager, who took home a Premier League title and two FA Cup titles before being sacked after two seasons at Chelsea, saw his team play around in the first 45 minutes of the League Cup tonight.
And he got to see a Japhet Tanganga who had a bad day at work. Five minutes were played when the defender played a cruel pass that Marcos Alonso picked up. He served Kai Havertz who put the ball in goal via Davinson Sanchez.
It went from bad to worse for Tanganga. When he – completely unpressurized – had to clear a Chelsea free kick, he headed the ball straight into Ben Davies and into goal. Then it was played 35 minutes.
Tottenham went to the break without coming to a single conclusion in what was Antonio Conte’s first game at Stamford Bridge since he was fired back in 2018.
Those who have had the job before him have not had it easy here. Tottenham have won just once at Stamford Bridge in 35 attempts in all competitions. The semi-final of the league cup was the 36th attempt …
Conte’s team looked a little better after the break. The Italian replaced Matt Doherty with Tanguy Ndombele and adjusted the formation a bit.
Harry Kane got Tottenham’s first goal chance on a free kick from just under 20 meters. Kepa Arrizabalaga appeared on cue near the post, and steered it past the goalie.
At the other end, goalkeeper Hugo Lloris was no worse when substitute Timo Werner suddenly had a clear path to goal in the 66th minute.
Tottenham got a great opportunity right at the end, but Kepa saved substitute Giovani Lo Celso’s shot from close range.
Thus, it is Chelsea’s advantage before the return meeting on Wednesday next week.
PS! Chelsea received bad news before the cup match: Both Thiago Silva and N´Golo Kante have tested positive for the corona virus and will not be seen for a while.
