More fear than harm. Benediktas Vanagas suffered a spectacular crash this Wednesday on the 4th stage of the Dakar 2022. The Lithuanian driver and his co-driver Filipe Palmeiro fortunately escaped unscathed.
Benediktas Vanagas (44), who is not taking part in the famous rally for the first time, knows that the slightest mistake cannot be forgiven. And he was able to verify it in the Saudi Arabian desert. Launched at very high speed behind the wheel of his Toyota n ° 219, he suddenly took off and rolled several times before his vehicle crashed into the sand several tens of meters away.

The images are impressive, but the terrible accident was not serious. The driver and his Portuguese co-driver were able to extricate themselves from the car without apparent injury. “I do not know what happened. Everything seemed normal and suddenly we were thrown into the air, ”said Filipe Palmeiro.
“Our Dakar is over… I did not receive any obstacle information at extremely high speeds,” said Vanagas. “I have nothing to reproach Filipe”, he added. Forced to retire, the duo will therefore not be at the start of the 5th stage this Thursday around Riyadh.
