Coronavirus – A photo of the chancellor skiing a week before his positive test is controversial

(Belga) A controversy rages in Austria after the publication of a photo of Chancellor Karl Nehammer with eight friends in a chalet, taken a week before his positive test for Covid-19.

In the photo, Mr. Nehammer and his ski companions are not wearing a mask. It was taken on December 29 in a chalet in the Katschberg estate and posted on social networks. A government spokesperson as well as the chancellor himself firmly denied any link between the latter’s contamination and his skiing holiday. The participants were, according to them, all vaccinated and tested negative. Mr Nehammer added on ORF radio that the infection broke out last week, after still testing negative on Wednesday, and that he was not suffering from it. His contamination was reportedly detected on Friday, following that of one of the members of his security service. Despite his justifications, the chancellor faces many criticisms, and this while Austria is preparing to introduce the vaccination obligation on February 1. (Belga)
