A man in his 40s has been arrested after a woman was found dead at a private address in Lier. Police are investigating the incident as a homicide.
The woman was found dead Saturday night, the Southeast police district writes in a press release.
The man in his 40s is charged with murder, and has given an initial explanation. He has had Andrea Wisløff appointed as defender.
– An initial police interrogation of him has been carried out, but he is so affected by what has happened that it has been decided to continue later, Wisløff says to NTB.
She adds that the man has not taken a position on the question of criminal guilt. The police say that it was the man himself who contacted them.
– We have not clarified the cause of death, but the accused has given an initial explanation which indicates that the case should be investigated as murder, says police inspector Odd Skei Kostveit in the Southeast police district to NTB.
He adds that none of those involved are acquaintances of the police. They can not say anything about a possible relationship between the two. The deceased is in his 60s.
The accused has not yet been questioned, but the police expect that this will happen during the day.
