It would only be a matter of time. Presented as the priority of PSG leaders as coach, Zinedine Zidane should succeed Mauricio Pochettino on the Paris bench, at the end of the season at the latest, according to a Qatari journalist.
For several weeks, the name of the former French playmaker has been coming back with insistence on the side of the Parc des Princes to replace the Argentine coach. But despite disappointing performances since his appointment in January 2021, Pochettino is still at the head of the capital club. For how much longer ? If his contract runs until June 2023, he should not go beyond the current fiscal year. The former defender is not unanimous with the Parisian management and is still approached on the side of Manchester United, who had thought of him to take over from Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who was dismissed at the end of November.
A return to England would open the door wide to the arrival of Zinedine Zidane. It does not even seem to be in doubt in Qatar anymore. “Zidane is about to join Paris Saint-Germain, maybe even before June,” Qatari journalist Mohamed Al Kaabi wrote on his Twitter account, citing a possible signing before the end of the season. Even if this scenario seems unlikely.

Free since his departure from Real Madrid last May, Zidane, who has reportedly expressed his interest in the position, is taking advantage of his family time to recharge his batteries and would prefer to wait until next season before accepting a new challenge. And the PSG, by the voice of Leonardo, had reaffirmed its confidence in Pochettino and not to have the intention to separate from his coach.
But everything could change if Paris were to be taken out of the Champions League in the round of 16 by Real Madrid. An early elimination could precipitate the departure of Mauricio Pochettino. And so the arrival of Zinedine Zidane.
