The LREM deputy for Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon, Stéphane Claireaux, suffered an assault in front of his home on Sunday on the sidelines of a demonstration against the health pass. The elected official announced that he had lodged a complaint, according to Franceinfo.
The Minister of the Sea, Annick Girardin, denounced on Sunday evening an “absolutely unacceptable attack”, posting on Twitter the “deeply shocking” images of the deputy receiving numerous projectiles. “It looked like a stoning”, reacted the latter to our colleagues.
According to his account, he was waiting for the demonstrators to start a dialogue on the steps of his house. While a car was loaded with algae, “people started throwing me at me,” he says, believing that a pebble has also passed very close to his face. “It was becoming irrational. There is one who tore off the mask I had on my face, saying that the virus does not exist, ”adds the elected official.
The LREM MP received a lot of support, such as that of the Minister of Overseas Affairs, Sébastien Lecornu, who pointed the finger at a “lynching” of the President of the National Assembly Richard Ferrand, as well as several elected members of the majority.
Sebastien Lecornu also announced on Twitter that he and Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin had “commissioned the prefect of Saint Pierre and Miquelon to ensure the protection of the deputy.”
