Turkey: Turkish international dies in traffic accident

Turkish football and the Konyaspor club are in mourning. Ahmet Çalik (8 caps) died this Tuesday morning in a tragic traffic accident in Ankara. He was only 27 years old.

According to the first elements, the accident occurred around 9 am in the district of Gölbasi. Ahmet Çalik, who was playing as a defender, reportedly lost control of his vehicle in a fast lane before ending his race in the side. Alone in the car, he did not survive this exit from the road. An investigation has been opened to determine the exact causes of the accident which occurred after passing a truck.

At rest on Tuesday, after participating in Konyaspor’s victory on Sunday against Sivasspor (1-0) and in training the next day, Ahmet Çalik, who was to celebrate his 28th birthday next month, would have gone to Ankara to get a date for his wedding, which he planned to organize in February, according to local press.

Konyaspor paid tribute to his player, who joined the club in 2020 from Galatasaray (2016-2020). “We are deeply saddened by the loss of our player Ahmet Çalik, who has won the love of our fans and our city since the first day he arrived. The club would like to express its deepest condolences, in particular to the family of our footballer Ahmet Çalik, ”the Turkish team wrote in a statement.

Ahmet Çalik started his career at Genclerbirligi (2012-2016) and had worn the Turkish team jersey eight times. He had in particular been selected by Fatih Térim for Euro 2016 organized in France, without however participating in any meeting.
