The Spanish big clubs had on the occasion of Supercopa taken the trip to Saudi Arabia to play the semifinals in the tournament on Wednesday night. And even though “El Clasico” in 2022 may not be what it once was, there was still a lot at stake.

Beforehand, they were white-clad favorites, while optimism was on its way back to the Barcelona camp.

Not only was this Xavi’s first “El Clasico” as Barcelona boss, but also the debut of new signing Ferran Torres.

But it was Real Madrid who got off to the best start. Both Vinicius Junior and Marco Asensio had great opportunities before 20 minutes were played, but the margins did not play on teams for the capital team.

Then it narrowed down properly. After 25 minutes, Luka Modric came in from the right, feinted, then sped past the off-balance defender to make the score 1 – 0, giving Vinicius the lead. The Brazilian pushed elegantly into the field, before he dotted the ball nicely up in the nearest corner.

1–0 Real Madrid.

The first Barcelona opportunity of the round came just after by Luuk de Jong. The Dutchman rose to the top and got his forehead on a post, but Thibaut Courtois in the Real Madrid goal hung on to the notes.

But also for de Jong, luck should turn. Just minutes before the break, Real Madrid stopper Éder Militão gifted the striker scoring in his third straight game. The clearance went straight into the left leg of de Jong, past Courtois – via the post – and into the net.

THE BLACK CRITICISTS: Luuk de Jong found the net masks in his third straight match. Still, it did not hold for Barcelona.

An equalizer of the lucky kind, but not at all against the course of the game, as the settlement approached half time.

Two minutes later, however, the ball sang in the net. The same man was first on a post from Dani Carvajal inside the field, and 2-1 was a fact.

Then Real Madrid seemed to steer towards the final, but then not.

Halfway through the half, Ansu Fati came in for his first minutes of play since November. Seven minutes before the end, the young boy appeared in the field and equalized with the forehead brace. It provided for game extension.
