It was with today’s sprint in Ruhpolding for Tiril Eckhoff (31). She stands over the rest of the races in Germany to get some altitude training.

– I have had a desire to get a short stay in the heights to be better prepared for the Olympics in Beijing, Eckhoff says to VG.

Thus, she jumps off the World Cup, just as she did during the World Cup races in France in mid-December.

But now Eckhoff is not going home to find the shape, she is going to the height to refine it. This is also confirmed by national team coach Sverre Huber Kaas on Wednesday afternoon.

– The plan is for her to rise to the heights tomorrow. This is how it had to be when there was no race in Oberhof, says Huber Kaas to VG.

Friday’s relay and Sunday’s hunt start in German Ruhpolding thus go without Eckhoff. The 31-year-old travels up to Italian Lavazé at 1800 meters, where the women’s and men’s national teams have trained this week.

– The plan is for Tiril to have up to six days in Italy – at the same height as the Olympics in Beijing. Then she travels with the others to participate in the World Cup races in Anterselva where the first competition starts on 20 January. After the races in Anterselva, it is back to Lavazé and precamp before the Olympics, says sports manager of the Norwegian Biathlon Association, Per-Arne Botnan.
