Gaspard Ulliel: the 5 films that marked his career

Actor Gaspard Ulliel died on Wednesday January 19 following a tragic skiing accident, at just 37 years old. The actor had been revealed to the general public in 2002 in Michel Blanc’s feature film “Kiss whoever you want”.

He leaves behind an eclectic filmography, rich in around thirty feature films, which have earned him several awards, including the César for best actor in 2017, for his role as a writer in “Just the end of the world”, by Xavier Dolan.

“The Lost” – 2003

After having made his debut at the cinema in “Le pacte des Loups” by Christophe Gans, then had his effect in front of the camera of Michel Blanc in the choral film “Embrassez qui vous disponible”, which earned him a first nomination for the Césars, in the male hopeful category, Gaspard Ulliel turns for André Téchiné in 2003. He gives the reply to Emmanuelle Béart and camps in “Les Egarés” a teenager confronted with the Second World War. A performance that earned him at only 19 a new nomination for the César.

“A long engagement Sunday” – 2004

The following year, the young actor turns under the leadership of Jean-Pierre Jeunet in “A long engagement Sunday”. He plays Manech, a young soldier accused of self-mutilation to flee the front in 1917, and sentenced to death. A death doubted by his fiancée Mathilde camped by Audrey Tautou, who then decides to carry out the investigation. Thanks to his performance, Gaspard Ulliel won this time the César for best male hope in 2005.

“The Princess of Montpensier” – 2010

After having played in 2007 in “Jacquou le croquant”, landed the main role of “Hannibal Lecter: the origins of evil”, released the same year, and gave the reply to Isabelle Huppert in “A dam against the Pacific”, Gaspard Ulliel turns under the direction of Bertrand Tavernier in 2010 in the “Princesse de Montpensier”. Presented in competition at Cannes, the film was a great success.

“St. Laurent” – 2014

Born to parents who were both stylists, Gaspard Ulliel was chosen by Bertrand Bonello to play designer Yves Saint Laurent on screen in the biopic he is dedicating to him, presented at Cannes.

A breathtaking incarnation of the great couturier which earned him a César nomination for best actor.

“Just the end of the world” – 2017

In 2017, the actor camps in Xavier Dolan’s “Just the end of the world” a silent writer, back in his native village after ten years of absence, to announce to his family that he is going to die. Presented at Cannes, the film won the Grand Prix and Gaspard Ulliel, for his part, won the César for best actor for this role. Actor with an international career, he had more recently shot for the Marvel series “Moon Knight”, broadcast next March.
