At least five people were killed in Spain in a nursing home fire overnight from Tuesday to Wednesday, rescuers said.
“There are five dead” and eleven people, poisoned by the fumes, hospitalized, announced the relief of Valencia, in the east of Spain, on Twitter.
The fire occurred around midnight in a nursing home for the elderly located in the town of Moncada, near Valencia. Of the eleven people intoxicated by the fumes and hospitalized in several hospitals in the region, three suffered “serious poisoning” and eight “mild” poisoning, according to the emergency services.
Firefighters had to rescue 25 people inside the building before bringing the blaze under control. They lowered the elderly by one of the stairs of the two-storey building, according to the local press, which evokes a short circuit within the medical equipment as the first lead of the investigation.
