Yoann Gourcuff: the former tricolor international is undefeated this season with his tennis club

Yoann Gourcuff has found his new favorite playground. Aged 35 today, the former tricolor international has left his crampons in the closet and now shines with a tennis racket in hand, notably with his Lamor-Plage club (Men’s Regional).

It is not so surprising to see the former player, who passed through Rennes, Bordeaux, AC Milan, Lyon or even Dijon, perform on the courts. In his youth, Yoann Gourcuff was one of the great hopes of Breton tennis. In 1998, he even participated in the Auray Super 12 Open, won by Rafael Nadal. He also hesitated for a long time between the little yellow ball and football before finally opting for the round ball.

But after hanging up, after a career littered with repeated injuries, he returned to his first love. With brio. His last performance dates back to this weekend, against Landerneau. With the Morbihannaise team, which occupies the head of its group, where it is undefeated (four wins, one draw), the former playmaker won his meeting against Alan Mazzella, ranked 15th like him. After conceding the first set, Gourcuff overthrew his opponent to win the super tie-break (3-6, 6-2, 10-8).

On the physical level, he used the coach of the Tennis Club du Pays de Landerneau, who ended up cracking. “I knew that I had to manage to impose my game because if he managed to start me physically… Because, we suspect that an ex-pro must cover the ground very well. And indeed, he runs everywhere, ”explained Alan Mazzella to the Telegram. And if he resisted during a set, he collapsed. “At the start of the second set, I am already well started physically or downright burned. I lose my lucidity, I start to make mistakes and he clearly goes over it”, added the coach, who bowed on a last “big forehand”.

Yoann Gourcuff had already made a name for himself earlier in the season. In October, the former tricolor had achieved a good performance by overcoming the Quimpérois Arthur Thuet also in the super tie-break (7-5, 6-7, 10-3). His future adversaries are warned.
