Will everyone be infected soon? The researchers believe we should rather think a few years ahead.

The researchers believe the coronavirus will be with us for several years to come. Virtually everyone will probably be infected eventually. But it is far from certain that it will be with the omikron variant.

New infection records are set almost daily. Omikron has completely taken over for the delta variant. And FHI director Camilla Stoltenberg has said that “we want people to actually be infected, because it will help to improve the immunity of the population together with continued vaccination”.

It has almost become a byword that “now we will all be infected with omikron”. But this is unlikely to happen, the researchers believe.
