Aftenposten thinks: Unpleasant visit, necessary conversations

Five months ago, desperate people fleeing the Taliban tried to cling to planes taking off from Kabul airport. This weekend, representatives of the Taliban were brought to Oslo by private jet. Representatives of a movement that has taken Norwegian lives have been flown in.

Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt (Labor Party) emphasizes that this does not mean that Norway recognizes the Taliban regime in Afghanistan. But the talks are a recognition by the participating countries that the Taliban now have power in the country. Huitfeldt also does not escape the fact that the Taliban use the meeting to legitimize their power.
