NATO sends more ships and aircraft to Eastern Europe

A number of NATO countries have sent additional forces to Eastern Europe in recent days, especially in the form of warships and additional fighter jets.

The Secretary General of NATO welcomes the additional forces.

These include ships and aircraft from Denmark, Spain and the Netherlands, NATO writes in one press release.

In addition, the Netherlands is putting troops and ships on standby to join NATO forces, while France has stated that it is ready to send troops to Romania, and the United States is considering sending additional forces to Eastern Europe. The additional NATO forces will be deployed in Lithuania, the Baltic Sea, the Black Sea, Romania and Bulgaria.

– I welcome the fact that allies are contributing extra forces in NATO. NATO will continue to take all necessary measures to protect and defend all our allies, including by strengthening the eastern part of the alliance. We will always respond to anything that weakens our security, including by strengthening our collective defense, says Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

The situation in Eastern Europe is currently very tense in connection with Russia building up its forces around Ukraine.
