In 1994, a referendum was held on Norwegian EU membership. 52.2 per cent voted against Norway joining the EU.

This is 28 years ago. This means that no one under the age of 45 has been allowed to vote on whether Norway should participate in European co-operation.

It is time for young people to be allowed to express their views on Norway’s place in Europe.

Economical growth

European cooperation is absolutely essential to solve problems and ensure economic growth in Europe. EU membership has historically proved to be favorable for economic growth.

In the countries that joined the EU between 1981 and 2004, gross national product (GDP) increased per capita. per capita with 12 percent on average.

Norwegian jobs and the economy are also dependent on an economic connection to Europe.

The fact that the EU is able to solve international problems is perhaps more important now than ever. The climate crisis is the biggest challenge of our time.

Important for climate

For us young people to have a future we can look forward to, countries must come together in international cooperation and cut greenhouse gas emissions. In Europe, the solution is this EU. They pursue the world’s most ambitious and successful climate policy.

Since 1990, the EU has cut its greenhouse gas emissions by 34 percent. This has had major positive effects. Also, was about 60,000 deaths as a result of air pollution prevented in 2018 compared to 2009, something the EU should have much of the credit for.

Unfortunately, they are more concerned with being against the EU than with the climate.

The International Energy Agency (IEA) estimates that global zero emissions will be delayed by 40 years with little international cooperation. The Left Party’s and the government’s response to this includes saying no to a common European power system, the development of more foreign cables and the EU’s railway package.

Unfortunately, they are more concerned with being against the EU than with the climate.

Peace Nation Norway

The EU is not just an economic union, but one of the world’s largest peace projects. Without the EU, it is far from certain that the people of Eastern Europe would have had the freedoms they now have. Just look at Belarus.

European co-operation has also ensured the longest period of peace in Europe’s history. There has not been a major war in Europe in 77 years.

Ever since the creation of the EU, they have worked hard to promote freedom of expression, democracy and the rule of law both inside and outside Europe.

We young people need a secure future to look forward to: The climate crisis, the refugee crisis and peace are some examples of challenges the next generation must address. The Peace Nation Norway should participate in the EU peace project.

We are not an isolated island. We need partners to succeed in the future. We need the right to vote in the EU. Therefore, it is urgent to sign up!
