The French flag bearers for the 2022 Beijing Olympics (February 4-20) will be designated this Wednesday evening by the CNOSF.
As the Winter Olympics are fast approaching, an important step will take place in Paris today with the designation of those who will carry the tricolor flag during the opening ceremony.
And they are six to still be candidates: Guillaume Cizeron (figure skating), Maurice Manificat (cross-country skiing), Kevin Rolland (half pipe), Gabriella Papadakis (figure skating), Julia Pereira (snowboard) and Tessa Worley (alpine skiing) .
For their part, Alexis Pinturault and Perrine Laffont, who were favorites, did not apply because of the competition calendar.
“Basically, I wanted to apply to be a standard bearer, admitted the reigning Olympic champion in mogul skiing. But it’s dead to schedule.”
Same story on the side of the winner of the big crystal globe. “I would have liked to, I discussed it but there was a big problem: we cannot make the trip shorter between the Olympic village of alpine skiing and the village of the opening ceremony, explained Pinturault. The whole trip, it would have been nearly 7 hours and it falls between two downhill training sessions, I did not want that to harm me. The skier has a very busy program with four races (super-G, combined, giant, slalom) and certainly the team parallel. As a reminder, as during the Tokyo Olympics, a man and a woman will share the honor of being flag bearers.
The flag bearers of the Paralympic Games (March 4-13) will also be presented on Wednesday evening. The appointment will be made on the set of Tout le sport, the France 3 broadcast.
