P50 Pocket and P50 Pro: Huawei wants to hit the mobile market hard

After a timid return with the Nova 9 released at the end of 2021, the Chinese electronics giant Huawei lifted the veil this Wednesday, January 26 on the P50 Pro and P50 Pocket smartphones. Two premium models that demonstrate the manufacturer’s ambition to return to the forefront of the mobile phone market.

Overtaken by its Chinese rival Xiaomi in particular, and undermined by a restrictive American policy including in Europe, Huawei spent a year 2021 in the shadows on the smartphone market. But at the start of the year, the giant wanted to demonstrate its desire to return to center stage. The Chinese group has thus presented the P50 Pro and P50 Pocket, which are respectively launched on January 26 for the first model, and from March 1 in France for the second.

With prices ranging between 1,199 euros for the P50 Pro and 1,299 euros for the P50 Pocket, Huawei is clearly targeting competition from Samsung and Apple, in particular, in the premium segment. It is even the South Korean giant that the Chinese comes to challenge on its field of foldable screen mobiles with the Pocket model, since this is the first officially declared rival of the recent Galaxy Z Flip 3.

Easy to store and offering a large 6.9-inch screen when unfolded, the P50 Pocket is elegant, and a model that targets a female audience in particular. Huawei relies on complete photo equipment, accompanied by a small circular screen on its folded front to display notifications and also to have a camera back to take a selfie or powder your nose.

The P50 Pro for the photo experience

For its part, the P50 Pro is placed on the photophone niche, like the entire P range of the manufacturer. Always accompanied by Leica’s know-how, this device offers to combine the work of several sensors, with in particular True-Chroma sensors, capable of “capturing up to 103% more light compared to 2021 sensors”. In addition, a technology combining computational analysis would make it possible to get as close as possible to the colors observed with the naked eye during a shot. Everything will accompany a beautiful 6.6-inch screen.

With the P50 Pro and P50 Pocket, Huawei is therefore preparing the ground for reconquest. However, the two products will not be 5G compatible. They will run on Harmony OS 2.0, Huawei’s in-house system.
