By a hair’s breadth! The expression takes on its full meaning here: in the Netherlands, an 80-meter-long super-yacht took canals and rivers to reach the North Sea. A route strewn with pitfalls, since it was necessary to pass under several bridges and cross locks. His price ? It is estimated at tens of millions of euros.
Which gives breathtaking images: we see the ship cut to take the seas and parade in the big ports, to venture under bridges. Visually, it looks like the ship is stuck. But everything was played at 12 centimeters, reported the Mirror (link in English).
Four months to prepare the trip
Manufactured by the Dutch manufacturer Heesen, this luxury super-yacht called “MY Galactica” had to travel several kilometers of canals and the Meuse for its maiden voyage. From the builder’s workshops to the North Sea, before joining its future owner, this vessel at a price that has remained secret has been hot.
The river trip took almost four months to plan, said the builder’s spokeswoman, Sara Gioanola. The time to calculate the room for maneuver, to obtain all the necessary authorizations. And to wait for perfect weather: with too much wind, which is common in the Netherlands, four years of work would have been wasted. Without forgetting to take care of the height of water of the channels.
“40 years of experience”
To pass one of the bridges of the course, it was played at 12 centimeters. And when going through a lock, only 15 centimeters remained on each side of the ship. The beautiful brand new aluminum hull was nearly scratched.
But the manufacturer’s spokesperson was reassuring and serene: “We have been doing this for 40 years,” she assured. A case altogether classic for the Dutch company.
