Jura: a 5-year-old child dies caught by a splitter

A dramatic accident in full fog. This Wednesday, January 26, a 5-year-old child lost his life after being hit by a splitter in the town of Publy (Jura).

A week after the death of four young people in a car accident, the Jura was once again bereaved. The fatal incident took place around 2:30 p.m., in a meadow located along the houses of the road to Beauregard, in the place called Binans in the town of Publy.

According to the first elements brought to the attention of the investigators, the unfortunate child was caught by a splitter used by a man cutting wood in the meadow, in a thick fog. As a reminder, this tool is used to split logs into multiple pieces by penetrating and pushing the corner of a piece of wood.

“The medical examiners are still on site. The protagonists have not yet been heard to detail the circumstances of this accident”, detailed Lionel Pascal, prosecutor of the Jura, in the columns of the regional newspaper Progress.

An investigation for manslaughter was opened and then entrusted to the gendarmes of the Lons-le-Saunier brigade, present on the scene from Wednesday to ascertain the facts and look for clues in order to understand the causes of this terrible accident.
