Presidential 2022. Popular primary: “Anything is possible, including a surprise”

Can you guarantee that the People’s Primary online vote is completely secure?

Absoutely. Our provider is Neovote, the same as that of the primary ecologist and the Les Républicains Congress. Each person registered for the Popular Primary had to fill in three pieces of information: their first and last name, their telephone and email address as well as a credit card imprint which is not stored to authenticate their vote. This ensures that there are no phantom voters.

The circulation of this data is protected at level 5 of the Cnil, the National Commission for Information and Liberties. And this data complies with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation) rules. The few people who have access to it have signed a code of ethics which binds them. As far as we are concerned, we will not use the data other than to inform, by text message or email, registrants of the status of the process.

You announced 467,000 registrants. There are only 466,895 left on arrival. Where did they go?

This first figure was an estimate from Neovote. There may have been duplicates or fake accounts and people may have asked to unsubscribe. But the difference of 105 remains marginal. The real figure, since the electronic ballot box was definitively sealed this Wednesday at 4 p.m. under the control of the bailiff and Neovote, is indeed 466,895 voters. Until Sunday 5 p.m., it is now possible to integrate the votes there safely.

Are you sure that the voters will respect the philosophy of this majority judgment ballot which consists in evaluating the candidates?

The individual freedom to vote conscientiously or tactically exists as in any election. But experiences show that in most cases, the vast majority of citizens break down their responses and therefore express themselves in a nuanced and complex way without a radical position. We think that we will not escape this observation and that our voters will play the game.

Since Christiane Taubira entered the running, more than 300,000 people have registered. Are they his supporters or his opponents?

It’s a good question that I am unable to answer since no one knows the reality of these registrants, their origins or their will. We just know that we have a base of 5000 volunteers very representative of all the left and ecology. Our activists come from La France Insoumise, ecology, social democracy, abstention. We will really discover the reality of this electoral body on Sunday evening.

Can we expect a surprise?

Everything is possible, including a surprise. We are ready to consider all scenarios and to campaign for Christiane Taubira, Anne Hidalgo, Jean-Luc Mélenchon, Yannick Jadot. Christiane Taubira has the only particularity of wanting to respect the result of the ballot. She is not the favorite, but a candidate like the others on whom all the voters can express themselves.

The result is expected Sunday at 7 p.m. The hardest thing to start?

From Sunday, there is a campaign to lead to win social justice and ecology in the presidential election. It is a campaign that will be difficult. We will have to convince all the French to unite, to give ecology a chance to win. We feel a deep aspiration in society, we think that the real surprise in this presidential election will come from the citizens and that it will allow to create a dynamic after the publication of the result.

We will first have to convince the Hidalgo, Jadot and Mélenchon who refuse to comply with the result…

They will be invited to participate in this gathering.

Some of your detractors call you mild idealists. How do you answer them?

Me, I am proud to be a utopian who believes in the possibility of an ecological bifurcation as it took a certain madness, a certain courage to imagine the end of slavery, women’s right to vote, Social Security . The real naïves are those who think that we can do without ecology and social justice. The real naïves are those who think that we can lose the presidential election of 2022.
