Francis Ngannou, winner of Ciryl Gane at UFC 270 on Saturday, will undergo knee surgery, his manager announced on Wednesday. The Cameroonian could be out until 2023.
After his victory on Sunday in Anaheim (California) against the French by unanimous decision for the defense of his title, the MMA fighter revealed that he had fought with an injured right knee, damaged at the level of the cruciate ligaments. This knee operation should come after Ngannou’s planned trip to Cameroon, according to his agent.
“I think we can all agree that he deserves some time to go home and be with his family and his compatriots,” Marquel Martin told ESPN. When he returns, we expect him to have surgery and then begin the recovery process so that he can be back 100% as soon as possible.”
Francis Ngannou, who is in talks with the UFC for a new contract, could be back in late 2022 or early 2023. His contract with the prestigious American organization the UFC will then come to an end at the end of the year.
Lately, the heavyweight champion has cast doubt on the continuation of his career in the UFC, not hiding his desire to fight in English boxing. A fight against Tyson Fury, WBC heavyweight champion, is also increasingly mentioned between the two men.
“We hope to be able to find a solution on the contractual level”, however indicated the manager of Francis Ngannou. The latter, aged 35, would like (according to some rumours) to face Jon Jones before perhaps finishing MMA. And so get into boxing.
What to say goodbye to a revenge for Ciryl Gane?
