In an interview published on Kool Mag’s Instagram account, Camille Lacourt returned to her painful separation from Valérie Bègue in 2016 after 6 years of relationship.
The couple married in 2013, a few months after the birth of their daughter Jazz in 2012. However, three years later, Camille Lacourt and Valérie Bègue decided to put an end to their story. And according to the ex-swimming champion, this separation, which he did not choose, pushed him to consume alcohol more than reason.
“There was a month where I think I hit depression. My friends were coming… I was drinking beer after beer for three or four days. I really needed to drink beers to sleep at night, not to talk,” he confides to cabbage mag. Fortunately, Camille Lacourt will eventually regain control through sport, with the objective of participating in the Rio Olympics in 2016.
“My friends were waiting for it to pass… And then I said to myself that I had to stop. Otherwise we can’t make it! I said to myself: “You are lucky to have the sport to get out of it, take it!”, He says. In his book Fifty shades of blue, the former swimmer had mentioned the influence of his life as a couple on his sports results. “At the London Games, I had not been Olympic champion because I was too much in love with my wife. At the Rio Olympics in 2016, I will not be on the podium either because this woman no longer loved me and I still loved her.
Today, Camille Lacourt found love again in the arms of Alice Detollenaere with whom he had a second child, a little boy named Marius, born on 1is June 2021.
