Charge of Mélenchon against the police: Gérald Darmanin denounces “hateful and systematic attacks”

The Minister of the Interior, Gérald Darmanin, this Friday, January 28, strongly replied to Jean-Luc Mélenchon, candidate of La France insoumise for the presidential election, about his words issued the day before against the police.

“The hateful and systematic attacks of Jean-Luc Mélenchon against the women and men of the people who are the police, far from being political anecdotes, are in fact ad hominem attacks against the legitimate authority of the Republic”, estimated the boss of Place Beauvau in a tweet.

This reaction comes the day after the broadcast of the program “Face à Baba”, on C8, in which Jean-Luc Mélenchon declared that he did not like “this violent police, this police who shot 32 people without him there is only one culprit, this police who killed a woman who was on the 4th floor in Marseille, this police who do what they want when they want”.

The Chief Insoumis also considered that it was “a corporation that controls itself”, denouncing an “IGPN made up of police officers”.

“you will obey”, threatened Jean-Luc Mélenchon

The presidential candidate proposes, if elected, to abolish the anti-crime brigades (the BAC, editor’s note), to return to the local police and strengthen the judicial police. He also spoke out in favor of improving the training of police officers, which has been reduced.

“This is what you will do if I am elected because you will obey,” he told the trade unionist Unit SGP FO and member of BAC 93, with whom he was debating. “Those of you who have shamed yourself and ridiculed the police through personal behavior, racist or otherwise, will be expelled from the national police,” he threatened.

“Your caricature, nobody believes it,” replied the trade unionist.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon’s words and tone deemed aggressive caused a strong reaction. “Thank you to our colleague Yannick, police officer in 93, SGP Police Unit delegate for having defended the National Police against Jean-Luc Melenchon, aggressive and caricatural. Cold blood and respect it is the cop in the field who surpasses the presidential candidate”, thus wrote on Twitter the secretary general of Unity, Grégory Joron.
