Hovland is fighting at the top despite an uneven round in Dubai

Viktor Hovland is currently in shared 5th place on seven strokes under par in the European Tour tournament in Dubai. He went on several bogeys on Friday’s round.

Viktor Hovland played unevenly in Dubai on Friday.

The Norwegian golf set was eight strokes below par in the half-played round, but got it tough afterwards. Where on the first nine holes there were four birdies, there were three bogeys and two birdies on the last nine. The remaining holes he went on par.

Thus, it was with three strokes under par on Friday, and seven under par in total. South African Justin Harding leads on eleven strokes under par. He has a few holes left of his second round.

Hovland went the opening round on four strokes under par, but picked up the same already after nine holes in Friday’s round. He started with a birdie on his first hole, the tenth of the course, before going on with birdies on holes 13, 14 and 18.

However, the last nine holes in Dubai are said to be easier than the first nine. It was also in the last nine Hovland picked up most of their shots in Thursday’s opening round.

Hovland experienced this when he smoked on the tenth hole, the first of the course, on the first bogey of the round. It should not turn out to be enough, because already on the next hole he got another. He hit a bad shot that ended up with him having to take one penalty shot at drop.

He bounced back with a birdie on hole number four, but went on a new bogey two holes later. He still saved himself a bit with a birdie on hole number seven, before finishing with two straight pairs.

The Norwegian has won the European Tour once before, it happened in Munich last season.
