Hurtigruten will be fined millions after the infection

The company is punished with a fine after a number of employees and passengers on MS Roald Amundsen received the corona in the summer of 2020.

The case is being updated ..

Hurtigruten will be fined one million kroner for deficiencies in the safety management system, emergency preparedness, morganization, reporting, risk assessment, facilitation and notification, the Police in Troms write in a press release.

– The violation is considered to be significant, considering the number of passengers and crew, the nature of the disease, severity and infectivity, and the risk of further infection, says Acting State Attorney Jørn Bremnes at Troms and Finnmark State Attorney’s Offices.

The captain of the ship is fined NOK 30,000 for failure to notify the Norwegian authorities of possible infection. In addition, the ship’s doctor receives a fine of NOK 40,000 for deficiencies in the practice of the profession as health personnel, as well as lack of notification.

Both the company and the two fines have been asked to decide whether the fine is adopted or not.

For Hurtigruten’s CEO Daniel Skjeldam, former operations director Bent Martini, as well as the ship’s doctor on the first voyage, the prosecution believes that there is no basis for personal criminal liability and the case has thus been dropped for their part.

– For these, the criminal case is decided by dismissal according to the position of the evidence. This is in practice the same as an acquittal in court, and they must be treated as innocent, says Bremnes.
