King Harald (84) has cold symptoms and is on sick leave, the royal family reports. Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt (Labor Party), who visited the royal couple before testing positive for the corona, hopes she has not infected King Harald.
“His Majesty the King has cold symptoms and is on sick leave for the next few days. All necessary examinations and tests will be carried out», writes the royal house in a press release Friday.
Crown Prince Haakon will lead Friday’s cabinet in the King’s absence. It is stated in the press release that Crown Prince Haakon has no symptoms and has tested negative for corona, but not whether King Harald has tested negative.
Aftenposten has tried to get in touch with the Royal Family’s communication staff. An SMS states that they have no more information than what is stated in the press release. The person who wrote the message did not give a name.
I sincerely hope I have not infected King Harald
It became known on Thursday that Foreign Minister Anniken Huitfeldt (Labor Party) visited the royal couple before she received confirmation of coronary heart disease.
Huitfeldt hopes she has not infected King Harald with covid-19 after it became known on Friday that the king has cold symptoms.
– I wish His Majesty good recovery. I have had a nice conversation with Crown Prince Haakon this morning, and I am grateful that the Crown Prince conveys my warm greetings to King Harald. As I said yesterday, I, like everyone else, am afraid of infecting someone, and I sincerely hope that I have not infected King Harald, Queen Sonja or Crown Prince Haakon in the audience yesterday, the Foreign Minister writes in a statement to NTB.
On Thursday afternoon, Huitfeldt tested positive for covid-19, just hours after she had been in an audience at the Palace with the king, queen and crown prince.
King Harald has received three doses of coronary vaccine. He has been on sick leave several times in recent years, including in 2020 when he had a new heart valve operated on.
