The US military has eliminated Abu Ibrahim al-Hachimi al-Qurachi, the leader of the terrorist organization Daesh, Joe Biden announced on Thursday.
“Last night, under my direction, U.S. military forces successfully undertook a counterterrorism operation in northwest Syria to protect the American people and our allies and make the world a safer place. Thanks to the skill and bravery of our armed forces, we eliminated Abu Ibrahim al-Hashimi al-Qurayshi, the leader of the Islamic State, from the battlefield,” the US president said in a statement.
The leader of Daesh died in the night from Wednesday to Thursday by detonating a bomb he was carrying, said a senior White House official, quoted by AFP.
“At the start of the operation, the terrorist target detonated a bomb which killed him and his own family members including women and children,” he said.

This is the largest operation by US forces in Syria since the death in a similar raid in October 2019 of Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, former leader of Daesh.
All American soldiers who participated in the operation are safe and sound, said Joe Biden, announcing that he would address the American people in the coming hours.
