Alba’s great score to 1-1 came after ten minutes. Back colleague Dani Alves hit the ball over to Alba, who on a full volley bent the ball beautifully over Atletico goalkeeper Jan Oblak.

After 21 minutes, the new signing Adama Traoré introduced himself to the home crowd. He hit a beautiful post which the shooting star Gavi sent on in goal with a header.

Just before the break, Ronald Araújo hammered in 3-1 after a mess in the field, before Alves put on to 4-1 close after the break. The latter was sent off 20 minutes before the end for a stamping on Yannick Carrasco, who early in the match had scored the lead goal for Atlético.

Former Barcelona player Luis Suárez also scored for Atlético, while Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang made his Barcelona debut after an hour of play.

Barcelona have only lost one league match after Xavi Hernandez’s entry as manager. With Sunday’s victory, the Catalans stepped into the top four in La Liga.

Alexander Sørloth played earlier Sunday 63 minutes for Real Sociedad in the 0-0 match against Valencia.
