After a little over a mile had gone by three miles in the Olympics, Sjur Røthe took off his skis and gave up.
Olympic three-mile start brutally for Røthe, but not only him.
Iivo Niskanen and Aleksander Bolshunov set up a tremendous speed in the high mountains outside Beijing, and got a solid hatch to the rest of the runners who necked as best they could.
After five kilometers, Røthe was nine seconds behind. After a mile, collapse was approaching, with Røthe a full two minutes behind the tenants.
Shortly after, one could see Røthe take off her skis and give up.
Little Olympic success before no
Røthe has World Cup gold and wins the World Cup, but the Olympics have never been a success for Vossingen.
In 2010, he was on the waiting list, but never came to Vancouver.
Four years later, in Sochi, he returned home in pure frustration after an unsuccessful championship when he was not taken out to five miles.
In 2018, he was plagued by ankylosing spondylitis he has been diagnosed with and was not good enough to be with.
But he came to Beijing in great shape. The Tour de Ski ended with him being the best of all up the final monster hill.
Then he avoided the corona on the national team’s hill camp in Italy.
