Legislative 2022: Minister Damien Abad re-elected in Ain

Damien Abad, the Minister for Solidarity, Autonomy and the Disabled, won 57.86% of the votes in the second round of the legislative elections, in the 5th constituency of Ain.

He was playing his political future. Damien Abad, brand new Minister of Solidarity, Autonomy and Disabled People in the government of Elisabeth Borne, was a legislative candidate in the 5th district of Ain. At the end of the second round, he won 57.86% of the votes, which allows him to be re-elected for a third term.

He was opposed to Florence Pisani, candidate for Nupes, who won 42.14% of the vote.

The former boss of the LR deputies, who joined the majority after the re-election of Emmanuel Macron, has been elected in this constituency since 2012. And at the end of this second round, the accusations of rape of which he is the target, and which seriously disrupted the beginning of the majority campaign and the inter-round period, do not seem to have influenced the choice of voters.

Recall that, in accordance with a rule enacted by Emmanuel Macron in 2017, the Elysée has made it known that candidate ministers who are not elected will have to resign. Re-elected, Damine Abad should therefore keep his portfolio, and leave his post as deputy to his deputy, Patrick Liébus.
