Covid-19: three unvaccinated family members swept away in a week

Three members of a family from the Vosges, who were not vaccinated, died of Covid-19 in the space of a week, we learn this Wednesday, November 24.

Dominique, the 48-year-old son, was the first to succumb to the disease on November 14, at his home. Her 82-year-old mother, Odile, died the next day, followed by her 89-year-old father, Robert, a few days later on November 20.

All three lived together in the village of Courcelles-sous-Châtenois. As Vosges Matin explains, the son, who suffered from a crippling illness and was not working, had returned to live with his parents following a separation.

Shock wave in the village

The announcement of these three successive deaths in the space of a week sparked a shock wave in the small town of 80 inhabitants. “We are all flabbergasted. It’s dramatic. Three people from the same family carried away by the virus in such a short time… ”, testified the mayor of Courcelles-sous-Châtenois, Michel Humblot, in the columns of West France.

The councilor now hopes that this terrible news will raise awareness for residents who have not yet been vaccinated against Covid-19. “Such a tragedy reminds us of the importance of vaccination (…) People must understand that it is necessary to protect themselves as well as their family and friends”, he thus underlined.

France is facing a virulent fifth wave, with contaminations on the rise. If more than 75% of the population is already fully vaccinated, the government plans to expand the third dose, until then reserved for over 65s, to the entire population.
