Mining accident in Siberia: the toll finally rises to more than 50 dead

(Belga) The toll of the explosion in a coal mine that occurred Thursday morning in Siberia is still increasing, bringing the total number of deaths to 52, Russian news agencies Tass and Ria Novosti reported at the end of the evening, citing the emergency services on site. Earlier in the afternoon, a provisional death toll of 14 had been communicated.

Among the victims, there are also six rescuers. A total of 239 minors were rescued, and more than 40 had to be hospitalized. This is the worst mining accident this year in Russia. The 47-year-old director, his deputy and a foreman were arrested. (Belga)
