George Kambosos Jr won the WBA, IBF and WBO lightweight belts on the night of Saturday to Sunday by beating in points, to everyone’s surprise, Teofimo Lopez.
It is perhaps the surprise of this year 2021. For the first time in his career, the American prodigy (24 years old), who had unified the titles of the category a year ago by dropping Vasyl Lomachenko, cashed a failure.
On a split decision, it was the Australian (28) who emerged victorious from a fierce fight, where the two men ended up in blood.

“Ferocious”, who fought for the third time in the United States, showed that he was talented, but he also knew how to take punches.
Kambosos surprised his opponent at the start with a knockdown on the first round, before falling to the ground himself on the tenth round. “I didn’t have any pain,” Kambosos said. I said to my camp, ‘Let’s go all out. I’m going to punish this kid ‘”.
Kambosos, who remains undefeated in his career (20 wins, including 10 by KO), inflicts a painful defeat on Teofimo Lopez.
Lopez interrupted Kambosos’ post-game interview to say he was robbed and lost only 2 out of 12 times, triggering boos from the Hulu Theater. “You’re delusional,” replied Kambosos, a new boss in a really impressive category.
