Journalist Gilles Bouleau (l) and presidential candidate Eric Zemmour on the TF1 JT set, November 30, 2021 in Boulogne-Billancourt, near Paris Thomas COEX
The TF1 interview with presidential candidate Eric Zemmour was followed Tuesday evening by 7.2 million viewers and thus captured 30.9% of audience share, the private channel announced on Wednesday.
The 8 p.m. news from TF1, presented by journalist Gilles Bouleau, was watched by 6.5 million viewers on Tuesday evening, accumulating 27.9% of audience share.
The peak of spectators was recorded during the interview with far-right polemicist Eric Zemmour, who had formalized his presidential candidacy a few hours earlier in a video posted on YouTube, which has accumulated more than 2 million views.
For ten minutes, the former columnist of CNews and Le Figaro was questioned about his candidacy video, his previous convictions for provocation to racial hatred or passages from his book.
Questions that the candidate did not like.
He castigated at the end of the JT an “interview with a prosecutor”, accusing the journalist Gilles Bouleau of having “wanted to be smart”.
Accusations refuted by TF1 which reminded AFP that “the journalist has the freedom to his questions, the guest of his answers”.
On the public service side and still in politics, the program “Elysée 2022” was broadcast in the evening on France 2. It hosted the last debate of the five candidates for the Les Républicains primary and was followed by 1.7 million viewers, occupying 8.9% audience share.
