Handball: details of the knife attack suffered by Elohim Prandi

The case shook French handball. In full preparation for the Euro with the France team, Elohim Prandi was the victim of a violent knife attack on New Year’s Eve, some details of which are now known.

The PSG handball player narrowly escaped death. Accompanied by several people on New Year’s Eve, the international tricolor (23) would have had an altercation with individuals at the exit of a bar located rue Pierre Charron, in the 8th arrondissement of the capital. One of them then took out a knife before stabbing Prandi six times in the back and fleeing, according to L’Equipe.

The blows were struck near the spleen and lungs, without reaching any vital organs, leaving his life spared. Prandi was immediately taken by firefighters to hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. Despite the anguish and violence of the aggression, Elohim Prandi’s days are no longer in danger, even though he will remain under observation for a few more days. He should also not have too much after-effects and should be able to resume competition in a few weeks after having observed a period of rest to recover from his injuries and the psychological shock.

The circumstances and the reasons for this attack have yet to be clarified by the investigators in charge of the case. Especially since the first investigations have not yet made it possible to identify the author of the facts. But the hearings of those present with Prandi that evening could accelerate the investigation opened for “attempted homicide”.

After having already missed the World Cup as well as the Tokyo Olympics, Elohim Prandi will not be able to participate in the Euro organized in Hungary (January 13-30). A blow to both the left-back and the team led by Guillaume Gille, which will also be deprived of Luka Karabatic or Nedim Remili. But it should be able to count on the other hand on Nikola Karabatic.
