The local newspapers Telermarksavisa and Varden first reported the firing on Saturday morning, and in the afternoon the same day confirms Odd that Nornes is finished after two seasons as head coach of Odd.
– Odds Ballklubb has not fired Jan Frode Nornes, but after an overall assessment has come to the conclusion that the best thing for the club now is a change of coach, it is stated in the press release.
The news of the firing comes on the same day as he turns 49, and after Odd finished in 13th place in the 2021 season of the Elite Series. The ski club ended the season weak with only one victory in the last ten matches.
After being Dag-Eilev Fagermo’s assistant for a number of years, he took over as coach when Fagermo went to Vålerenga. As recently as February last year, Nornes extended his contract with Odd. Then he signed a contract that extended into the 2023 season, but after a good spring season and disappointing autumn season, Nornes is finished.
Nornes has been an Odd man for a long time: As an active player, he was in Odd from 1999 to 2006, before he after the player career became assistant coach for the club in 2008.
The ski club now has a proper solitaire to lay before the upcoming 2022 season. They are now without a head coach, sports manager and chairman of the board. The club has previously confirmed that sports manager Tore Andersen will not continue in the job, while it became known in December that chairman of the board Trond Haukvik resigned.
VG has tried to get in touch with Odd’s general manager, Einar Håndlykken, without success. Nor has Jan Frode Nornes responded to VG’s inquiries.
VG will return with more.
