7:32 am: Matignon consults the parties on the terms of the campaign
Prime Minister Jean Castex brings together the various political parties this Tuesday at 11 a.m. to consult them on the organization of the presidential campaign, and in particular on the voting methods. A consultation that takes place in a tense health context, marked by the spread of the Omicron variant.
The subject of the 500 sponsorships should be included in the discussion. Jean-Luc Mélenchon on Monday asked for a rapid reform of the system, believing that this “filter has become a cleaver”. He said he had gathered nearly 400 sponsorship pledges but is struggling to collect more, just like Eric Zemmour. The two candidates want to restore the anonymity of signatures, which was partial until a 2016 reform.
