Terrible scene filmed by a CCTV camera on January 7 in Hobbs, New Mexico, United States.
A young woman is seen tossing a live baby into a dumpster, before driving off again behind the wheel of her white car. The scene was filmed and caused fear across the Atlantic.
The baby had been put in a garbage bag, wrapped in a blanket full of blood. This is a little boy, who was still wearing his umbilical cord.
Miraculously, six hours later three passers-by will hear the infant’s cries, search the trash cans, and save his life. Found very weak, the child is now in a “stable state” and has been entrusted to social services.
For its part, the police quickly found the mother, Alexis Avila, 18. Arrested the next day, she admitted the facts. Hobbs Police Chief said: “She admitted to throwing her baby away, explaining that she panicked right after giving birth. […] She says she had a sharp pain in her stomach and gave birth in the toilet at her parents’ house. Panicked, she didn’t know what to do or who to call. “
The young woman was charged with attempted murder and child abuse. She faces up to 15 years in prison.
