Goodbye, party prince Andrew

Prince Andrew is no longer a royal highness.

Prince Andrew has been stripped of his titles. Not a moment too soon.

What do you really need with a royal house? You do not have to be a Republican to ask that question. But it should be a kind of national unifying symbol. An exalted family.

Ever since Roman times, the ideal of the monarch has been a combination of power and humility. Authorization and piety. Formation and devotion. But even though Queen Elizabeth II has managed to keep the crown stiff on her head for almost seventy years, other parts of the royal family have done their part to give disgust to the prince’s cake. Prince Andrew is perhaps the foremost example.
